This is a nice quiet trail that follows one of the major canals in Palm Coast and through the Graham Swamp Conservation Area. and US 1 (Bunnell). Currently there is limited parking across the road there at a defunct development but you can reach the trailhead from Linear Park in Palm Coast by riding along Colbert Lane for 6 miles beside the road. Maine: Eastern Trail, 20 miles. This most populated stretch of East Coast Greenway begins at Battery Park and travels the length of the island to the George Washington Bridge. It's a little tricky to find if you're not familiar with the area, but it's worth it. This is a very active wildlife area with Birds, Alligators, Turtles, Snakes, Deer, Armadillos and Ferrel Pigs. A little north (probably less than a mile) on Rymfyre there is a park with clean bathrooms next to an elementary school. The railroad spur once carried cement and other materials to and from the Lehigh Portland Cement Plant in Flagler Beach. A short on-road section and bridge crossing lead you to the Timucuan Trail, running through Big Talbot and Little Talbot State Parks and offering beautiful views of the coast with side trails to beaches. Very few folks on the trail at 0800 on a weekday. Interesting ecological area created from the multiple rivers flowing into the Atlantic ocean. Peak Greenway Trail System (Greenway) is a growing network of approximately 80 miles of developed multi-use and accessible trails open from sunrise to sunset. Just look for the intersection of Royal Palms Parkway and Belle Terre Parkway on the southwest side of Palm Coast. In the capital, connect with the two miles of the Greenway along the National Mall, past the monuments and museums, and the Mount Vernon Trail across the Potomac, heading south into Virginia on a winding, well-loved trail. We designated 23 new segments of the Greenway in 13 states and D.C. in 2020. The trail is paved all the way and only two major road crossings. Head west to US 1 and go north for miles along open space. First time on this trail Jan 2020. I bike it almost daily, use it to get to the beach. New York: Hudson River Greenway, New York City, 12.4 mi.The Greenway is a great way to travel north and south on the island of Manhattan, with broad views of the Hudson River. Except for a few sections the majority is in the shade as long as its not in the middle of the day. Definitely check it out and all the other paths Palm Coast has to offer. As it is nearly four miles, end to end, it makes a perfect eight mile run in the morning. This isn't the longest trail in the state but I would say it's one of the better ones. We parked at Belle Terre Parkway and rode to the east end and back. Parking is road side only here. The trail lacks amenities, so bring your own water, snacks; & pee before you start. You can also cross a toll bridge (no charge for bikes)into PC. There are 2 crossings over public roadways but otherwise a nice ride! This trail is about a mile from our home. The Lehigh Trail is located in Flagler County on a former railroad corridor comprising 195 acres. Guess I will pony up some dough for the cause! The bike loop is part of an interconnected trail network that includes the Gordons Pond, Walking Dunes and Pinelands Nature trails (the latter of which is hiking only). Pennsylvania: John Heinz National Wildlife Refuge Trail, 8 miles. I ran this while on vacation visiting friends in Palm Coast. It's was well used but not crowded. The trail continues north at Monkton while the East Coast Greenway heads east. This truly is a fun, safe, and beautiful trail. Would recommend going during the week as I suspect the trail will be more occupied with Rinus over the weekend. We ride it for our shopping needs so much we don’t have to use our vehicle. I have enjoyed the cities addition of this trail. The Linear Park has some nice shorter trails. This flat, scenic trail is perfect for a family ride. The eastern segment travels through an interesting mix of swamp, hardwood hammock, and pine scrub. New Jersey: D&R Canal Trail, New Brunswick-Trenton, 36 mi. All in all a positive experience. It then crosses the River Lea into Newham, continuing to Stratford and West Ham. The bathrooms were clean, and there was plenty of parking. The Oregon Coast Trail is 384 miles from border to border and 344 miles are designated scenic trail. In order to get in some extra miles we did some loops in the neighborhood to the north. Leave downtown Durham at the trailhead of the American Tobacco Trail, across from the Durham Bulls baseball stadium, and enjoy traffic-free greenway to downtown Raleigh. Very tranquil lots of trees which blocks the sun making the ride more enjoyable. Lehigh trails are wide open and clean...Palm Coast does an amazing job keeping the trails clean. You will be amazed by the natural scenery and animals you may spot so close to D.C. along this stretch of trail. Three of us rode this trail this weekend. I saw a handful of bike maintenance stations to air up your tires, small repairs. The trailhead at Colbert lane had clean bathrooms and the parking was good. A collection of recent planning efforts in the City of High Point and surrounding region have together recommended a community-wide network of greenways.This plan will refine and prioritize this system of greenways, giving the City a framework to move forward on project development.
